We’re honored to share that the film project on Harlem in Havana has been featured in All About Jazz.
The article, which explores the vital role of circus and carnival circuits in spreading Black music across America, highlights a powerful and often overlooked history—how early performers carried the roots of jazz, blues, and rhythm & blues into the heartland, long before mainstream recognition.
Within that story is the legacy of Leon Claxton and his Harlem in Havana Revue—the groundbreaking touring show that blended Afro-Cuban rhythms, swing, and Black performance traditions into something entirely its own. Seeing this work acknowledged alongside artists like Lester Bowie affirms just how far-reaching that influence has been.
This is exactly why telling this story of Harlem in Havana is so important—it was cultural exchange, resistance, artistry, and innovation on the move. We’re so grateful to see this history continue to be recognized and remembered.
