Screenplay

Bring the Harlem in Havana Legacy to the Movie Screen!

We are adapting the documentary JIG SHOW | Leon Claxton’s Harlem in Havana into a scripted screenplay—and we’re seeking passionate, visionary screenwriters and producers to join me in this creative journey.

Set during the height of the Jim Crow era, the screenplay is a bold, cinematic retelling of a powerful true story—one of Black prosperity, artistry, and resilience. It follows Leon Claxton, a fearless Black showman who built one of the most successful traveling revues in North America.

At a time when segregation and racism restricted so much, Claxton’s revue—featuring Black and Afro-Cuban performers, like Bates Sisters—thrived. It broke rules, dazzled audiences, and proved that Black excellence could not be denied.

This screenplay is a tribute to a hidden legacy of joy, pride, and entrepreneurial brilliance during one of America’s darkest times. With your collaboration, we can craft a screenplay that reclaims this history and inspires new generations.

If you’re a screenwriter, director or producer drawn to stories of Black resilience, cultural memory, and transformative joy, we want to hear from you!
